Solar Farm Near M1 Watford Gap Services Approved

An 18-acre (7.3-hectare) solar farm project near the M1 Watford Gap services has received unanimous approval from West Northamptonshire Council. The development, proposed by PS Renewables, will feature more than 15,000 solar panels and is expected to generate up to 6 megawatts of renewable electricity—sufficient to power around 2,100 homes.

James Walker of PS Renewables described the project as “a relatively small solar farm comprising a single field.” He emphasized that the site, previously used for livestock grazing, will continue to support sheep grazing alongside the solar panels.

The council’s strategic planning committee noted that the visual impact of the solar farm would be minimal due to its proximity to existing warehouses and wind turbines. No objections were raised during the planning process.

Walker highlighted the project’s contribution to reducing carbon emissions in line with legal requirements and its role in generating UK-based electricity for domestic use.
