French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a strong warning that France may impose sanctions on Israeli officials if urgent action is not taken to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Macron highlighted the severity of the situation, noting that Palestinians continue to suffer under Israel’s blockade, which has lasted nearly three months.
He stressed that the international community cannot remain passive while the people of Gaza face severe deprivation. Macron stated that if Israel fails to respond appropriately in the coming days, France will consider “hardening our collective position,” including potential sanctions targeting Israeli settlers.
In addition, Macron reiterated France’s position on Palestinian statehood, describing it as both a “moral duty and a political necessity.” However, he emphasized that recognition of Palestinian statehood would be conditional, requiring measures such as the demilitarization of Hamas.
These remarks come ahead of a United Nations conference scheduled for June 17–20, co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, aimed at developing a roadmap for Palestinian statehood while ensuring Israel’s security.
